The Shark Show

THE SHARK SHOW was formed in 2001 by Gabe McKinley and Nick Stevens. Gabe and Nick, as they are known, were members of the sketch comedy troupe UTAH ARM. After a successful five years of being funny, entertaining people and not making any money, Utah Arm pulled a Journey and went their "Separate Ways." Not wanting to let the funny torch fall, Gabe and Nick, along with their new friend Dan Gaba, banded together to start something new. Instead of another all-sketch show, they wanted to shake up the format and expand the talent base to involve other people who can bring the funny. They wanted to get involved with New York, a city rich with comedians of all styles, shapes and sizes. THE SHARK SHOW design, hatched after many intense hours of beer, sports and more beer...

I became a drifter for a while and wound up being a roadie on that "Gypsy Road" for the band "Cinderella." Then I worked on a friend¹s cable access show when I got to New York City.

THE SHARK SHOW design, hatched after many intense hours of beer, sports and more beer, would be that of a downtown New York comedy-variety show for the new millennium. Drawing from influences new ("Late Night with Conan O'Brien", "Mr. Show"), old ("Your Show of Shows", "Saturday Night Live") and familiar (beer, sports), THE SHARK SHOW was off and running.

Here's how THE SHARK SHOW works; each episode is approximately 75 to 90 minutes long and packed with brand-new original humor. Gabe, Nick and Dan are the producers and hosts of each show, as well as the "house band", responsible for writing and performing up to 45 minutes of original comedy, be it sketch, stand-up, improv, monologue, characters, song, dance…you name it. The other half of THE SHARK SHOW features four to five original comedic acts. Our outside acts come from all over, some having appeared on Letterman, Leno, Conan O'Brien and Comedy Central. Some have appeared at your mom's house or on a milk carton, and that's cool too, so long as they're funny. Each of these performers brings their unique talent, humor and ability to the stage, mixing in with the "house-band" to make for one outrageous and unpredictable night of variety and entertainment.

THE SHARK SHOW, now running for almost two years, has had two successful engagements at popular downtown venues. The show has recently moved to its new home, The Red Room (www.httheater.org), located at 85 East Fourth Street, 3rd Floor in New York City. THE SHARK SHOW runs bi-weekly on the first and third Thursday of every month. The show starts at 10pm and tickets are six dollars ($6). We're known for more than comedy. Just ask anyone who's ever attended one of our infamous "Shark After Dark" after-show parties…and made it to work on-time the next day. You'd be hard-pressed to find a better show, more laughs, or a better night out for $6 than THE SHARK SHOW. Gabe Nick and Dan, along with the numerous talented performers they work with, know how to have fun. No two SHARK SHOWs are alike, and you might never be the same after you've come to an episode of THE SHARK SHOW yourself.

Favorite Kurt Russell Movie: Picking a favorite Kurt Russell movie is like a desert flower picking its favorite drop of rain! But, if pressed to choose I would have to say "Escape from New York."

In My Shitty Small Over Priced New York Apartment You Will Find: Four Kurt Russell DVDs, Two fishing poles, One Kurt Russell Video tape, a lot of clocks, beer, unsweetened ice tea and bourbon

Most humbling moment: When the American Basketball Association was absorbed by the National Basketball Association and the Kentucky Colonels basketball organization folded.

Best (or worst) lie I've ever told: "Coach, I want an education."

Five foods you can't live without: cheese, burger, bun, beer, Cod filet with Swiss chard and toasted-pumpkin-seed sauce

Why you should you get to know me: Although I may have "padded" the "stuff I¹ve done section" of my bio, I never bitch about not having any money. So, I¹ve got that going for me.

In My Shitty, Small, Over Priced New York Apartment You Will Find: Booze, Books, Beagle. What else? DVDs: Excalibur and Clash of Titans. George Brett rookie card.

Most humbling moment: Walking in on my girlfriend of four years shagging a middle aged bar owner.

Best (or worst) lie I've ever told: I love you.

Five foods you can't live without: Water, Barley, Malt, Hops, Yeast.

Why You Should You Get to Know Me: I am a reasonably good looking young man with no money or prospects of any. I am a smart ass that will take every opportunity to make you realize you are inferior intellectually to me. I am a good darts player. I party a lot. I hate most people.

Favorite Kurt Russell Movie: 𠇋ig Trouble In Little China”

In My Shitty, Small, Over-Priced New York Apartment You Will Find: An original “Caddyshack” poster, a Pedro Martinez jersey, “Back to School” on DVD and nothing else of value.

Most Humbling Moment: I’ll let you decide. Was it a.) Performing at Carnegie Hall for 4,000 people, or b.) The time two pretty girls overheard me tell a group of my guy friends “I took such a big shit today that I went from full to hungry.”

Best (or Worst) Lie I've Ever Told: I once answered the question “Who are you?” with “I’m Batman.” At the time it was a lie, but now it’s true.

Five Foods You Can't Live Without: Hamburgers, Cheeseburgers, Chiliburgers, Pizzaburgers and Allotherburgers

Why You Should You Get To Know Me: Well, I've had to spend my entire life with myself, and I haven't gone nuts yet, so that says something. I can bench press several pounds, run a forty-yard dash in under an hour and jump over most puddles without getting too wet. I can add, subtract, multiply AND divide in my head. I love sports, especially all the ones that are best observed with beer, nachos and oversized foam hands. I also enjoy going to the beach and the movies, especially beaches or movies that are best observed with beer, nachos and oversized foam hands – HEYO! You've been a great audience. Get home safe. Goodnight!

Oh, and if you’re the guys who robbed my apartment this winter, note that you’ll also find: a high-end security system, deadly deadly cobras, booby traps, a policeman, and two falcons who have been trained to go for the eyes.

Most Humbling Moment: Mookie Wilson’s slow grounder to first.

Five Foods You Can't Live Without: Five shots of bourbon.

Why You Should You Get To Know Me: The other Shark Show guys are pretty aloof. I’m your ticket in.
